Can you repair underground service wires?
Yes and no. While we don’t repair underground wires (because repairs often fail again over time), we replace them to ensure a long-term, reliable solution.
What are the signs I might need this service?
You may need your underground wires replaced if:
1. Your lights dim or brighten when appliances like the AC or microwave turn on.
2. You have partial power in your home — some areas work, others don’t.
- If your AC isn’t working, it’s likely a problem with underground wires.
- If your AC works but only some lights are out, it’s usually just a tripped breaker.
3. CenterPoint Energy has told you that you have bad URD drops.

What sets Power Surge Electric apart from other electricians?
At Power Surge Electric, we treat every customer like family.
We don’t just tell you what needs to be done — we explain why so you fully understand your options.
Our goal is to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible, building lifelong relationships, not just one-time jobs.
How do I know if I need to upgrade my electrical panel?
You may need a panel upgrade if you notice:
- Your breakers trip frequently.
- Lights flicker or dim when appliances turn on.
- You smell a burning odor near your panel or outlets.
- Your home still has a fuse box or an outdated panel like Federal Pacific or Zinsco.
- You’re adding high-demand appliances such as a new HVAC system, EV charger, or hot tub.
If you’re unsure, we can inspect your panel and let you know if an upgrade is needed.
What should I do if my breaker keeps tripping?
A breaker that trips repeatedly is a sign of overloaded circuits, faulty wiring, or bad breakers.
Start by:
1. Unplugging devices on that circuit and resetting the breaker.
2. If it still trips, don’t keep resetting it — this could be dangerous.
3. Call us to inspect the wiring and breaker to prevent fire hazards.
Do you install EV (Electric Vehicle) charging stations?
Yes! We install EV charging stations for homes and businesses. We’ll ensure the electrical system can handle the added demand and help you choose the right charger for your vehicle.
How do I know if I need a whole-home surge protector?
If you have expensive electronics, appliances, or smart home devices, a whole-home surge protector is a smart investment.
Surges can come from lightning strikes, utility issues, or even large appliances cycling on and off.
A surge protector helps prevent costly damage and is especially important in areas prone to severe weather.
What’s the difference between a standby generator and a portable generator?
- Standby Generator:
- Permanently installed and turns on automatically when power goes out.
- Runs on natural gas or propane.
- Powers your whole home or key circuits. - Best for seamless backup power.
- Portable Generator:
- Must be manually started and connected.
- Usually runs on gasoline.
- Powers only a few devices or circuits.
- Best for temporary power needs.
We install both options and can help you decide which is best for your home.
Why are my lights flickering?
Flickering lights can be caused by:
- Loose or faulty wiring.
- Overloaded circuits.
- Issues with the utility company’s service lines.
- A failing light switch or fixture.
If it happens often or throughout the whole house, it’s best to have us check it immediately, as this can be a fire hazard.
Do you install smart home devices like smart panels or lighting?
Yes, we install smart home panels, such as Span, as well as smart switches, lighting controls, and other home automation devices.
We’ll help you modernize your home and make it more energy-efficient and convenient.
What should I do if I smell something burning or see sparks?
Turn off the power immediately at your main breaker panel and call us right away. Burning smells, smoke, or sparks are serious signs of electrical failure and potential fire hazards.
Do not try to fix this yourself.
How often should my electrical system be inspected?
We recommend having your home’s electrical system inspected:
- Every 3-5 years for safety.
- Before buying or selling a home.
- When adding major appliances or remodeling.
- If your home is 30+ years old, as older wiring may not meet today’s safety standards.
What are your payment options?
We accept cash, check, and major credit cards.
For larger projects like panel upgrades or whole-home generators, financing options may be available to make the investment easier.
